2024 CITREA Riesling

A$40.00

The love of Lucas’ (wine) life! Riesling is in his veins and as you probably already know the ‘Citrea’ is an ode to the wines Lucas grew up drinking in is homeland of Alsace, France.

18 months relaxing in old French barrels has built texture and weight that we don’t usually associate with traditional ‘Aussie’ Riesling.

Lemon curd, shortbread, jasmine blossom are just some of the many unique characters that leap from the glass on first impressions… It’s rich for Riesling but all held together with fine lacy acidity.

“This Riesling has Alsatian DNA. Aromas trigger memories, neurons fire up, and here we are, Australia to France in a nanosecond. The character of this wine may have something to do with the winemaker being Alsatian…It’s an Aussie Riesling with an Alsatian soul. Here’s why. Generosity, ripeness, nuance. It expands beyond the steely acidity, right into mouthwatering nuttiness, aromatic orchard fruit skins, creamed honey, blossoms, bitter citrus, crushed coriander seeds. The best part is the drying, textural palate, laced with ginger and cinnamon, tonic water bitterness, a little dusty, a little chalky and a hell of a lot interesting.” 95 Points - Kasia Sobiesiak, The Wine Front (July 2025)

“While the Ninch [Riesling] fires on all cylinders right from the get-go, the Citrea is slow to unravel – but once it does, it will seduce you. There are beautiful characters of lemon, peach, apricot, marzipan and jasmine flower that make smelling it a delight, particularly as these notes reveal themselves as it breathes. The real magic is on the palate, which becomes oily after a while and is brimming with energy. While I thought it was showing really well now, I think the Citrea will be even better with a few more years behind it, and I’d confidently cellar it for at least five more years.” 93+ Points - Brendan Black, Wine Pilot (June 2025)
